Soft Linens and Warm Hues for Autumn

As the temperature drops, I find myself reaching for heavier fabrics and deeper tones to ground the bedroom.

LIVING WELL

The change of seasons is more than just a calendar event; it is a shift in how we experience our homes. As the air turns crisp and the leaves begin their slow descent, I feel an instinctive pull to pull out the heavier textiles. Transitioning your bedroom for autumn is about creating a cocoon that feels safe and warm against the cooling world.

The Shift to Woven Textures

I typically swap out my light summer cottons for washed linen and chunky wool knits. Linen is a year-round favorite of mine because it regulates temperature so well, but in the fall, I layer it with a thick duvet and a quilted coverlet. The added weight provides a sense of security and comfort that makes crawling into bed at night a true event.

Introducing deeper hues like terracotta, deep olive, and mustard yellow can instantly change the mood of a room. You don't need to repaint; simply adding a few velvet throw pillows or a new rug in these tones can ground the space. These colors reflect the changing landscape outside and bring that organic, earthy feeling indoors.

Creating a Nighttime Sanctuary

With the days getting shorter, lighting becomes even more important in the bedroom. I swap my brighter bulbs for warmer, amber-toned ones to create a soft, candle-lit glow throughout the evening. Adding a woven basket at the foot of the bed for extra blankets ensures that warmth is always within reach when the midnight chill sets in.

Taking the time to intentionally dress your bed for the season is a way of honoring the natural rhythms of life. It’s about preparing your nest for the slower, quieter months of winter. Sleep comes easier when you feel completely tucked in, surrounded by the softest textures and the warmest colors.
